Our First Five Day Week!

We successfully completed our first five day week! In reading, we've been focusing on a lot of important concepts such as: how to choose a just right book, making connections while reading (text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world), asking questions while we read, and forming our own opinions about books. We reviewed the 5 finger rule, which is a great rule that lets us know if a book is too hard. Be sure to ask your child about it! In math, we are currently in our first unit. So far we have talked about number lines, counting coins, and telling time. We've learned three great games (2 of which can be played at home!) called Addition-Top-It, Money Exchange, and Penny Plate. Next week we will talk more about using a number grid and the patterns we find on the number grid.

It was wonderful to meet all of you on Curriculum Night! I know we are all going to have a great year together and I am looking forward to working with you all. THANK YOU so much for your generous donations of books from the Book Fair and from the class wish list. It really does mean so much!

Below you will find pictures of your children working hard in Room 16! What a great place to learn.... :o)
